About Lau

Lau Øfjord Blaxekjær works at the intersection of climate action, maritime decarbonisation, and public affairs — connecting strategy, storytelling, and systems change.With three decades of experience across government, industry, research, diplomacy, and civil society, he brings a rare perspective to the global energy and sustainability transition. Lau has collaborated with leaders from business, policy, and academia to shape international climate strategies, build green shipping initiatives, and turn political ambition into practical results.Through his consultancy, ØFJORD, he helps clients translate climate goals into scalable solutions that drive meaningful change.

Lau holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Copenhagen and has worked as a researcher, programme director, and policy advisor. His work appears in journals and media including PNAS, Climate Policy, Politiken, and Lloyd’s List, and he frequently speaks on how diplomacy, innovation, and communication can accelerate sustainable transformation.
Known for his curiosity, calm presence, and collaborative spirit, Lau bridges people and ideas across sectors — from high-level panels to creative workshops and start-up mentoring.
ØFJORD takes its name from the Danish translation of Eyjafjörður — a deep Icelandic fjord known for its beauty and maritime heritage. The name reflects Lau’s roots in the North and symbolises the firm’s connection to openness, depth, and the meeting point between nature, people, and the good life.
